Cause and Effect

Cause

One major cause of the civil rights movement was the Jim Crow Laws. These laws were essentially the separate but equal laws of the segregation era. It was these laws that allowed separate white and black water fountains, blacks having to sit in the back of the bus, blacks only being allowed into the balcony of movie theaters, lower pay for blacks, etc.

Effect

In the 1950's and 1960's African American  citizens rose together to try to abolish these laws some key people who would contribute to this movement would include Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, the Little Rock nine, and many others. They would fight for their freedom and equality. Yet they would be treated as second class citizens. In 1964 the Eradication of racial segregation would be put into play this meant you were not allowed to separate people because of their race in public places.
