Gained and Lost

The civil rights movement took a lot of hard work and battling. In this movement they would gain the civil rights act. This would ban discrimination against African Americans. Some of the discriminatory practices banned included segregation in schools and public places, as well as racial and gender discrimination in the work place. Later a bill passed by the Johnson administration known as the voting rights act of 1965 enforced the right for African Americans to vote in the United States.

During the civil rights movement many hard working African Americans lives would be taken. Such as Martin Luther King Jr, Emmet Louis, Medgar Evers, George Winston Lee, Jimmie Lee Jackson, James Earl Chaney and many others. These six men would all be murdered during the civil rights movement. These men were shot kidnapped, beaten and much worse. All they wanted was the rights they deserved.

He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life. - Muhammad Ali
